Part 1: Gaining Background Information:
Your Goal: To Develop an understanding of the Constitutional Convention and Review the differences in the American colonies to discover each state's interest in the development of the Constitution
Step One: You will look at an Image called "Scene at the Signing" by Howard Chandler Christy.
1.) Look at the image as a WHOLE, then DOUBLE CLICK on a person in the image. The page will zoom in, and you will be told who the person in the paining its!

Part Two: The Issue of Representation
Your Goal: to explain the first major problem discussed (and resulting compromise) regarding REPRESENTATION
Step One: We will read "Unite or Die" by Jacqueline Jules as a class (this is NOT an online learning activity)
Step Two: You will ONE of the THREE research the compromise plans: The Virginia Plan, New Jersey Plan, and the Connecticut/Great Compromise). You must use the VA, NJ, CT chart that was given you to record your findings about the plan. Use ONLY the websites below:

Step Three: Creating a Thought Bubble
After your group members have shared their research on each of the three plans, and you have COPIED their notes down, you will create a new thought bubble for the same delegate at the in the "Scene at the Signing" image that you chose in Part 1. This time, use what you have learned about the three different plans. Think about what your chosen delegate may have wanted and WHY.

Your Goal: Explain the second major problem and the resulting compromise: What form of government will there be and how will we distribute power? (Federal vs. State)
Step One: (No Computer) We will look at the Neighborhood Scenario to discuss the idea of Federal V. State Power

Step Three: Thought Bubble
Now that you have learned about the issue of Federal V. State Governments, go back to the "Scene at the Signing" and look at the delegate that you have chosen in Parts 1 & 2. Write a NEW THOUGHT BUBBLE using what you have just learned about Federal V. State Governments. Think about what your delegate would have wanted!

Now that you have learned about the issue of Federal V. State Governments, go back to the "Scene at the Signing" and look at the delegate that you have chosen in Parts 1 & 2. Write a NEW THOUGHT BUBBLE using what you have just learned about Federal V. State Governments. Think about what your delegate would have wanted!
Part Four: The Issue of Slavery
Your Goal: Explain the third major problem and resulting compromise: Who is the Constitution really for? Are "all men created equal?"
Step One: Take a look at the document on the left (look at the image and read the text). What was the 3/5 Compromise? Why do you think that some states would want the 3/5 Compromise? Why would some states be against the 3/5 compromise? (Think about population)
